10 Scariest Ever Batman Comics Stories
2. The Batman & Dracula Trilogy
The Elseworlds story Batman And Dracula: Red Rain may have been one of the more obvious match-ups in comic book history, but that didn't stop it from also being one of the greatest. In the first part of this trilogy, Batman faces off against Dracula, whose bloodsucking creations are running riot around the sewers of Gotham. Dracula is defeated, but in the process, Batman becomes a creature of the night himself, kicking off the meat of the story: Batman, vigilante vampire.
In one of the darkest turns a Batman story has ever taken, Batman succumbs to the thirst (giving the Joker the last laugh after all), brutally murdering every last one of his enemies to sake the bloodlust.
Once again, Doug Moench writes, while Kelley Jones - already responsible for some of the creepiest, most evocative Batman art out there - illustrates. Lurid, gory and genuinely unsettling, it's a trilogy which ends with Batman burned to death, Alfred beheaded on a plate and Commissioner Gordon crushed beneath a giant rock. Needless to say, they left that out of the animated movie.
