3. The Spectre: The Haunting Of Jim Corrigan

Venom #22 Father's Day
DC Comics

The Haunting of Jim Corrigan is a five-issue story arc written by John Ostrander and drawn by Tom Mandrake, and ran from issues #52-#56 of the Spectre series. It follows the Spectre’s temporary host’s exploration of the memories of Jim Corrigan to prove that he didn’t murder, and Corrigan’s conflict with his ghostly self.

The Spectre is on a rampage. Instead of taking his vengeance selectively, he passes vicious judgement on inmates and guards at Attica Prison. He finds one innocent man who was framed but will be put to death. The Spectre turns a blind eye to this but it becomes important to his other self, Jim Corrigan. Meanwhile, his host Nate Kane flashes on a memory of Corrigan’s that may show he murdered a woman back in the 1940s. Spectre continues his rampage of righteous vengeance.

Corrigan encounters a man who has it all but has lost everything with the death of his wife, Paula. He is Michael Holt. He was planning to jump off a bridge when Corrigan recounts the life of his friend Terry Sloane, Mister Terrific. Holt takes up the Terrific mantle and vows to be a hero to the children of the neighbourhood. Kane finds a supposed dead woman still alive, having been knocked off the bridge and rendered amnesiac. The Spectre attacked Father Kramer, an innocent, and fled to Heaven to ask for aid.
