10 Secrets Of Neil Gaiman’s Death Of The Endless

8. Her Relationship With The Family

Sandman Death
DC Comics

Death is a member of the Endless, a family of anthropomorphic personifications based on universal facts. She was the second to come into existence after her brother Destiny. Death came into being just before the first thing in the universe came to life. She will also be the last being in the universe when the last thing dies. After which, she will "put the chairs up on the tables and lock the universe behind her."

Death is closest to Dream, although their personalities couldn’t be further apart. She is perky, fun, warm, and caring. She has two goldfish, Slim and Wadsworth, and a hat collection in the house in her realm and tends to be the more maternal of all of the Endless. While not as stoic as Destiny, Dream is more serious and somber. He is more prone to withdrawing into himself, fits of anger, and acts of revenge. Death just is.

Death has no time for the games and intrigues of Despair and Desire. She will tolerate their actions but when they get to the point of hurting one of their siblings, Death will get angry and Despair and especially Desire wisely fear that anger.
