10 Shocking Times Comic Book Heroes REFUSED To Help

1. Spider-Man Wouldn't Stop The Burglar Who Later Killed Uncle Ben

The Amazing Spider-Man #50
Marvel Comics

On his road to becoming the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker had a few problems. First of all, he was a kid, and while he was an incredibly intelligent young man, he still had a lot to learn. He wanted to make some money, so he opted to use his powers to that end.

He wrestled for cash while obscuring his identity, and after a while, he created the Spider-Man persona with the now recognisable red and blue duds. He went on television and performed for the world. It was all going rather well, and people were offering him movie roles and money.

When he finally got a moment to himself, a man began running his way with a security guard in tow. The guard yelled out, "Stop! Thief! Stop him! If he makes it to the elevator, he'll get away!" Spider-man stood by and watched the whole thing happen.

The thief got away, and the guard asked him why he didn't help. Spidey replied, "Sorry, pal! That's your job! I'm thru being pushed around — by anyone! From now on, I just look out for number one - that means - ME!" Of course, the burglar would go on to murder Uncle Ben, teaching Pete a lesson he would never forget.
