10 Spider-Man Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

6. The Evil That Men Do

Spider Man Death Of Jean Dewolff
Marvel Comics

The Evil That Men Do had a somewhat troubled history before it made it out the door. This Kevin Smith helmed project would take nearly four years from inception to completion and would be the main cause in Marvel removing Smith from head writing duties on Amazing Spider-Man, a job he had been lined up for upon completion of the story.

That was a shame as the final product set a much more mature tone for the Spider-Verse and would have allowed the Wed-Head to explore whole new subjects.

There is no doubt that it was a very controversial arc, with Smith tackling the topic of sexual assault, but it is something he should've also been applauded for, given how Spider-Man books had skirted around the topic in the past.
