10 Spider-Man Sidekicks Everyone Forgets

2. Andrew "Andy" Maguire

Andy Maguire is really the only character who could truly be called Spider-Man's sidekick in the same way Robin is the sidekick to Batman. His name is derived from a combination of both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, making him something of an homage to two of the actors who played Spider-Man in live-action films.

Andy, otherwise known as Alpha, found his way to Spider-Man's side after an accident at Horizon Labs gave him superpowers. The accident came as a result of one of Peter's experiments, and he followed his Uncle Ben's advice from long ago, that with great power comes great responsibility, and he felt responsible for what happened to Andy.

He opted to mentor the young man in becoming a superhero, which offered him the ability to give to the next generation something he lacked as he became a superhero of his own. Alpha is chocked-full of superpowers, and in some ways, he's more powerful than Spider-Man.

He can fire off an energy blast, can move at super-speed, create force fields, can fly, manipulate matter, move objects with his mind, and all of his senses and strength are enhanced. The two worked together for a short period, but Peter felt he wasn't responsible, so he stripped him of his powers.

Not long after that happened, Pete was "killed" by Doc Ock, and when the Superior Spider-Man met with Alpha at Horizon Labs, he returned his powers slowly over time. Eventually, he moved to Pittsburgh, where he's established himself as the city's protector.
