10 Stupid Arguments About Batman That Don't Make Sense
7. All The Robins Are Kinda Creepy
Now really, if you're going to make this argument, that basically means you're on the side of Fredric Wertham, and you really don't want to be. Wertham was a quack pop psychologist who, in the fifties, at the height of the comic book boom, came out with a book called Seduction Of The Innocent, denouncing these four-colour superheroes as Satanic tracts pulling kids off of the straight and narrow. One of the principal offenders in turning the nation's children into sinners and the like? Batman and Robin, of course, who close relationship definitely harboured some signs of homosexual goings on. Besides the obvious, super offensive assertion that being gay is the same as being a paedophile, Wertham's conclusion requires deliberate misreading. Again, it's applying real life logic to a story about a dude who dresses as a bat to fight crime which is neither big nor clever, Alan Moore/Mark Millar/David S Goyer, delete as applicable but also, clearly nothing's going on between Batman and his various Robins. He just sees in them a similar tragedy to his own lonely, orphaned childhood. And he wants them to get those feelings out through vigilante justice.
