4. Deathcry

Seriously, what is it with the nineties and introducing truly terrible Avengers?

Created by Fred Van Lente and Tom Grummet, Deathcry - much like Sentry - had the potential to be a genuinely interesting Avenger. Upon the orders of Lilandra, the Empress of the Shi'ar Empire, Deathcry is sent to join the Avengers as a liaison officer should the Kree - the invading alien force at the time - ever return to Earth.

Ultimately, however, she did little to live up to her origin. Given a dreadful name (that again, could only have been conceptualised in the nineties), as well as an equally dreadful outfit, Deathcry did little on the team apart from confide in Vision and Hercules from time to time, and soon left after her initial introduction.

Lilandra's former warrior would later perish (and then return) in 2011's Chaos War storyline, but is yet to mount a comic book comeback.
