10 Stupidest Avengers Of All Time

5. Sentry

Although the concept of there having been a 'Marvel Superman' might sound promising, at least to a degree, the actual implementation of said idea proved to be quite the headache for the company at the start of the millennium.

A Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee creation, Sentry is quite literally the hero that time forgot. In his first series, Jenkins and Lee established that the Sentry (who now goes by the name of Robert Reynolds) had actually always been a hero of the Marvel Universe, and not just any hero either. The book retroactively fashioned a legacy for the character, turning him into Mr. Fantastic's best friend, X-Man Angel's onetime tutor and even the subject of the photo that earned Peter Parker a Pulitzer Prize.

Contrivances aside (and they are annoying), Sentry would later ruin his reputation as an Avenger by not only siding with Iron Man's pro-registration forces during Civil War (a major no-no in the comics), but also with Norman Osborne's Dark Avengers too.

Everything about Reynolds' character felt particularly ham-fisted, and although his time with the Avengers was brief, there's little chance he'll be endearing himself to the Marvel masses anytime soon.
