10 Superhero Comic Deaths (That Didn't Mean Anything)

10. Professor Xavier

Professor Xavier founded the X-Men, a team of mutants who fought for equal rights and justice with their amazing array of powers. The Professor was always a key member of the team - though he did not partake on missions, he pulled the strings from his mansion, hoping to push his team, and the world, into an era of equality for his race of super-powered mutants. But, as the years passed, Professor X became somewhat of a background character. He was almost forgotten as Magneto, Wolverine and others took the spotlight on the multiple X-books. Professor X essentially became a symbol, and less of a character. Issue after issue and event after event piled on the shelves, yet Professor X did not surface in any major stories. However, that changed during the events of Avengers vs. X-Men. The Phoenix (a destructive cosmic force) possessed five mutants: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magik, Colossus and Namor. Their numbers fell, and Cyclops was the only remaining mutant with the Phoenix Force. Professor X decided to make a stand, utilising his incredible psychic powers to end the reign of terror, and, well, he died. In one issue, after being stuck as a glorified background character, Professor X made his appearance, battled and died, all within a few pages of AvX. Not exactly a proud, or even symbolic, death for the founder of ever-popular X-Men.
