There is a line in a song by the band Pop Will Eat Itself, that simply states "Alan Moore knows the score," and they aren't wrong.

Arguably the greatest comic book mind that Great Britain has ever produced, Moore's history is littered with some of the most important stories to ever appear in print, including this take on Superman.

When Tim Crane decides it's time to investigate the ten-year disappearance of Superman, his first port of call is a retired Lois Lane-Elliot. This acts as the jump-off point for '...Man Of Tomorrow' as Lois recounts the events that led up to Superman vanishing.

With most of his villains either dead or in hiding, there doesn't seem to be a huge demand for Clark Kent's alter-ego, until Toyman and The Prankster learn of his secret identity. Broadcasting it to the world sees them all come crawling out of the woodwork, leading tragedy to strike both Lana Lane and Jimmy Olsen. This forces Supes to hunt down the mastermind responsible, leading him to break his one rule - never to kill.

Stripped of his powers, he walks out into the arctic wasteland, never to be seen again. Or so everyone thought...
