10 Superman Moments That Shocked The World

9. The Adoption And Abuse Of Jimmy Olsen - Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen

Poor, poor Jimmy Olsen.

Since his debut way back in 1938, Jimmy has been involved in some gnarly situations that have put his very life in danger. So many of those situations, of course, were ones where he found himself stood alongside the Man of Steel. But how about those times when Superman was the real problem?

One prime example of the legendary Kal-El being a legendary pain in the backside was in the Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen title that began in 1954. While there are a multitude of examples to call upon of Superman being outright cruel to Jimmy, none are quite as shocking as the time that the Last Son of Krypton adopted Olsen.

In principal, adopting Jimmy was great. Not only would Jimmy get a new father figure, but that father figure would be his best friend and his absolute hero. However, as the tale unravelled, Superman bullied and tormented Olsen at every corner. From Jimmy having to clean Superman’s trophy collection, to Supes setting his Father’s Day presents on fire, to simple name-calling, this was a grim time for young Jimmy.

So grim, Jimmy Olsen would seek legal action to get this entire adoption scrapped.
