10 Supervillain Replacements That Outshone The Originals
4. Aaron Davis - The Prowler
The Prowler was initially a title held by inventor Hobie Brown who used his gifts for crime and become an adversary for Spider-Man. Though the two would square off from time to time, Brown would eventually mend fences with the wall-crawler and become a valuable ally to the hero. He'd even star in his own limited solo series in 1994.
Enter the Ultimate Marvel Universe, a revamped version of the comics that allowed writers to tell new stories. This time around, Miles Morales served as the new Spider-Man after the death of Ultimate Peter Parker. The new Prowler, on the other hand, would be Aaron Davis - Miles' uncle who was a career criminal.
This twist was an ingenious one, playing on the importance of the Uncle Ben figure in Spider-Man's life. If Ben taught Peter great power and responsibility, Davis would be the dark inverse of the archetype and be Miles' signature villain. The character's life then came to an end when his gauntlets accidentally killed him.
Since then, Aaron Davis would be used for subsequent adaptations of the Prowler, first as Donald Glover in Spider-Man: Homecoming then by Mahershala Ali in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
