10 Supervillains Who Thought They Were The Hero

8. Bolivar Trask

Ozymandias Watchmen
Marvel Comics

Shortly after the mutant leader, Magneto, declared war on humanity, an anthropologist called Bolivar Trask designed mutant-hunting androids called Sentinels. Magneto may be one of the most famous villains in Marvel history but, at the end of the day, he is trying to protect his species. On the other hand, Trask's Sentinels have killed millions of mutants. How could Trask this level of murder?

Trask's motivation is simple; he wants mankind to survive. Mutants are, in essence, the replacements of humanity. Is mankind expected to just let mutants take over? Homo-sapiens (which is us), wiped out its cousins, the Neanderthals approximately 50,000 years ago. Since mutants like Apocalypse and Sinister are killing humans solely because of their species, Homo sapiens seem like they will be suffering the same fate as Neanderthals. Trask only created the Sentinels to protect mankind.

However, Trask was somewhat redeemed because he is one of the few supervillains who learned the error of his ways. When the Sentinels believed they should rule the world, Trask realised that he had created a threat worse than mutantkind. In his final act, he blew up his base to destroy the Sentinels, killing himself in the process.
