10 Supervillains Who Thought They Were The Hero

7. Brainiac

Ozymandias Watchmen
DC Comics

Brainiac is the smartest being in the universe and one of Superman's most daunting foes. To maximise his knowledge, he tends to find worlds, shrink sections of them, and insert them into jars so he can study them. To ensure no one learns of his collected data, he destroys every planet he visits after he bottles one of its civilisations.

Over the millennia, he has destroyed countless worlds, shrunk billions of people, and imprisoned them on his ship. How can he possibly see himself as anything except pure evil? Well, Brainiac's mind works more like a computer than an organism.

Brainiac sees the universe in data and analytics, not feelings or morals. He rarely experiences emotions. When he fought Superman, he said it was the first time he felt pleasure in centuries.

Brainiac may be seen as one of the most diabolical entities in the cosmos but he truly believes he is doing a service to all the people he killed. Every planet will inevitably die. But because Brainiac is consuming all the data of each world, “they will all live on in me.”
