Nothing beats a good comic book crossover. The novelty of seeing X meeting Y literally never gets old, but while there are some crossovers that tend to make a lot of sense (the myriad of Spider-Verse stories Marvel publish, for instance), there are others that just don't make sense - at least not at first.

However, through sheer will - and a buttload of talent - even the cookiest of crossovers can turn into something special. Just ask DC and IDW, with the release of Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a testament to how even the most off the wall premise can become something special given the right approach.

At a glance, most readers could be forgiven for thinking that a given inter-company mish-mash just shouldn't work, and yet, when the likes of DC, Marvel, Dark Horse IDW and more do cross the streams, the results can genuinely be quite compelling.

Do they make sense? Not all of the time, no. But they are often fun, inventive, and generally just rather care-free.

If you've ever wanted to delve into the lighter side of funny books, then look no further than these surprisingly brilliant crossover comics.
