The Young Avengers were doomed from the start. A group of teenagers cosplaying and fighting crime as junior versions of Earth's Mightiest Heroes was bound to get the attention of the real thing, which is exactly what happened. Worried for the safety of these adolescent copycats, Captain America and Iron Man tried to put the kibosh on the whole thing by calling the kids' parents, revealing the mysterious bunch's back stories. Patriot, a kid in a makeshift Bucky costume, turned out be the grandson of original super soldier Isaiah Bradley. The magical Wiccan and his twin brother Speed - guess his powers - were revealed to be the lost children of Scarlet Witch. Wiccan's boyfriend Hulkling was the son of a Skrull and Captain Marvel. When it came down to revealing his own origins, Iron Lad was all but forced to announce that he was in fact Kang the Conqueror, one the Avengers' most diabolical foes. The older Kang had visited his younger self to show him what he would one day become. Initially the young Kan hoped to go back and right his future wrongs but, when seeing all the time anomalies this created, the adolescent Kang begrudgingly accepting his dark future.
