What comics afford that other visual media - such as film or TV - cannot, is a nearly limitless budget. So it was a natural fit to tell stories of conflicts between icons that major studios either couldn't or wouldn't bank on.

Fans would ultimately get to see such clashes as Alien Vs. Predator and Freddy Vs. Jason on the big screen. To this day however the only clashes between Robocop and the Terminator have been in comics.

Comic legends Frank Miller and Walt Simonson would craft a tale that sees three Terminators being sent back in time to protect Robocop from human resistance fighters. Readers would later discover that Robocop's development was integral to the birth of Skynet. A time-travelling adventure follows that uses Robocop as a fulcrum to look at what it means to be human in a nightmare future ruled by machines.

This crossover would not only inspire the classic nineties video game of the same name, but it was also responsible for some of the lamentable elements from Robocop 3.
