10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The Avengers For Everyone
2. The Ms Marvel Ridiculousness
We've been through this whole rigamarole before, but it bears repeating, because it is honestly one of the most controversial and rightly reviled instances in the history of the Avengers (and Marvel comics as a whole). Carol Danvers was one of the few good female characters that the team had introduced at that point, endowed with the cosmic power of Captain Marvel and doing so with gusto. That all went out the window during a totally bonkers storyline where she woke up one morning six months pregnant, with absolutely no memory of how she'd gotten that way. Then the baby was born and he disappeared too. Turns out that he was a multi-dimensional space baby called Immortus who was...also the one who impregnated her in the first place? Basically he is a villain from the future who had kidnapped Ms Marvel, seduced and impregnated her, and then wiped her memory of any of that happening. Which meant there was some confusing paradoxes, issues of consent and incest all mixed up into one horrible, horrible package! Regardless of all of these traumatic revelations the Avengers were happy that Carol Danvers was happy with her new son/lover, and gave her their blessing as they went off to another dimension to do gross incestuous non-consensual stuff. Which they promptly did, until months later Ms Marvel returned and righteously laid into her supposed friends for letting her go off with a dude who had literally brainwashed her into loving him. Thankfully they all made up and we never spoke of this again. Except all the times we did.
