10 Terrifying Joker Stories You Never Read
7. The Clown At Midnight
The Clown at Midnight demonstrates once again the black depths of the Joker’s heart, and shows in technicolour his absolute lack of human emotion.
Recovering from a gunshot wound to the face, the Clown Prince of Crime announces his plan to unveil the latest iteration of himself to Gotham at midnight, and the Batman is invited to this macabre shin-dig.
His most loyal ally and on-off lover Harley Quinn is tasked with killing all of the Joker’s former lackeys and lieutenants, taking pieces off the board and wiping the slate clean for organised crime in Gotham.
Delivering poisoned roses to henchmen city-wide, Harley carries out her task with the deference and zeal you would expect.
That is, of course, until she learns of the Joker’s true plan.
Planning to rid himself of all of his former captains, Harley finds herself in the Joker’s cross-hairs as the penny drops that she is to be the central attraction in Joker’s midnight special.
Saved only by the inevitable intervention of a certain Dark Knight, Harley comes to understand her true worth in the eyes of her ‘Puddin: absolutely nothing.
Joker’s willingness to elaborately murder those he supposedly cares about (in as much as he can truly care about anyone), purely to gain the attention of the Batman once again paints a harrowing picture of an unpredictable and remorseless killer.
