10 Things About Breaking Into Comics (That No One Tells You)

Going to conventions is the easiest way to both meet new collaborators and also spread knowledge of your work.

This seems obvious, but rarely is it mentioned in any 'breaking into comics' panels that going to comic cons can be the best place to make that happen. It's already assumed you know that and are doing it by the fact you're at a panel at a comic con, but just because you're there doesn't mean you've been planning to try and meet and make connections that will help you make comic books.

Now, it's pretty common in comics that a lot of people can find meeting face to face awkward and uncomfortable, and many can have social anxiety. However, it is worth fighting through this if you are at a comic con and hoping to make a book yourself. It's another element to add to the comic con experience that can be exhausting, but it is ultimately so very worth it, as there is nothing better than face-to-face introduction and connection.

You never know who you will meet, and what new connections you can make, so remember that a comic con isn't just for fun; if you want to be a comic creator too, this is a chance to work, even when you are not exhibiting your own work at the show.
