10 Things DC Comics Want You To Forget About The Joker‏

7. Historically He Had A Face, Too

Joker Face
DC Comics

Taking Ledger's psychotic depiction of The Joker as a challenge, DC took up the gauntlet by pushing the character into hitherto unexplored realms of lunacy by having the villain cut his own face off. Well, technically it was the Dollmaker - another, minor member of Batman's rogues gallery - who sliced the very skin from the Joker's already horrific visage, but with the other villain's consent. Now that is true criminal madness!

Having left it behind in his cell, pinned to the wall during his latest escape from Arkham Asylum, the face was stored in the evidence room of the Gotham City Police Department. Since then it's been pinched by Harley Quinn and a new copycat character who calls herself the Joker's daughter, whilst the original owner runs around looking more grotesque than ever.

Apparently the incident was intended to show The Joker's latest "rebirth", implying he is crazier than ever. Or it might have just been for shock value. Regardless, it doesn't look like The Joker is going to have his shrivelled skin returned to him any time soon.
