In the Hush storyline it was revealed that The Riddler had been suffering from cancer, and that in order to save his life he used one of Ra's Al Ghuls Lazarus Pits. This cure had unintended consequences on the puzzle enthusiast, and but it cured him of his cancer, leaving him alive and well to continue his criminal career. Ra's Al Ghul's League of Assassins were more than unhappy that someone had used the pit that kept their leader alive, but they were unable to trace who had used it. The Riddler luckily escaped any retaliation from the highly skilled group. Hush was a story that really highlighted how good a villain The Riddler is. It showed him as desperate for a cure while also showing him as the mastermind villain that we all recognised from his previous outings. The Riddlers intellect is one that is matched by very few in the DC universe, and his reaction to the potentially fatal disease shows how innovative the character is he isnt just a bizarre criminal intent on leaving clues to his capture. He is a criminal mastermind who is truly underestimated in the comics and on screen.
