There have been a number of very interesting actors who could have potentially have played Thor over the years - not least those who were in direct competition to Chris Hemsworth for the role he is currently portraying. Hemsworth's own brother Liam was rivalling him for the role and got down to the last few actors on the shortlist, while the man who would go on to play Loki - Tom Hiddleston - also auditioned prior to being cast as his adopted brother. James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, was also considered for the role but completely shunned the idea, saying "What am I, on some stupid fu**ing power trip? I can't imagineĀ blonde hair and a big hammer." True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard was also considered while, in the past - prior to the Marvel Cinematic Universe being a thing - Sabretooth actor Tyler Mane was considered for the role. Moreover, Thor has actually been played in live action before - in the 1988 television film "The Incredible Hulk Returns" - where a decidedly weak incarnation of the character was portrayed by Eric Allan Kramer.
