Although the most recent version (2011's New 52 onwards) of Wonder Woman is a demigoddess and the natural-born daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, the classic version of the character's widely accepted origins are that of a girl forged and birthed magically from clay. She was made by Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons, and was imbued with the attributes of the Greek and Roman gods by Athena. As such, she was described as "beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules." Consequently, the classic version had no father and no father figure to speak of at all.
