10 Things Everyone Always Forgets About Daredevil

5. “Hi, I’m Mike Murdock.”

Daredevil Prison
Marvel Comics

Mike Murdock initially came about because Spider-Man sent a letter to a blind man. Parker wrote a letter to Daredevil to tell him that he had figured out his secret identity, and that letter was intercepted by his legal partner Foggy Nelson and their secretary Karen Page in Daredevil #24. To throw them off the scent, Matt created a gregarious and impulsive twin brother named Mike and made him the hero. And the pair bought it.

Matt would periodically appear as Mike to reinforce the falsehood that he had built, but living three lives was quickly beginning to wear on him. Daredevil used a fight with the Unholy Three in Daredevil #41 to rid himself of Mike. He told his friends that Mike had trained a replacement when Hornhead appeared again.

When the Inhuman Reader was helping Matt with some research, he accidentally used his power to make anything he read become real by creating Mike Murdock, which Reader called a “fragment”. At some point, Mike stole a Norn Stone and changed reality to make him Murdock’s real twin brother from the beginning. Falling into a criminal way of life and on the outs with his brother, Mike was killed by Kingpin while impersonating Matt at Foggy’s request.
