10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Bane

2. Bane Isn't Significant To Batman

It's not uncommon for Batman comics to focus on supervillains who reflect what Batman could have been had he not had such strong morals; such as Hush, who ended up a twisted kind of Batman, or even Black Mask, as both characters show how easy it would have been for Wayne's wealth to have corrupted him.

But these comparisons avoid looking into one other figure, who was intended to be a dark mirror of the Bat himself. Bane has all of the discipline of the Bat, and all of the tactical abilities and strength, but aimed in the opposite direction of the Dark Knight's heroic intentions.

It's interesting how infrequently this is focused upon, though, given it should theoretically be the focus of the pair's time on page. While you could argue that this is because it has been overdone between the Joker, Hush, and the various other Bat-twins, it's an entirely different relationship - as Bane is not a reflection of Batman's childhood, but rather of the Knight and his mission itself.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
