10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Batman

2. The Yellow Symbol Makes No Sense

Throughout his career, Batman has adopted a wide variety of capes, cowls, and bat-suits. These changes have also, for the most part, coincided with shifts in the character's direction, with different aspects of the cowl and costume possessing different connotations for different people.

One of the most contentious aspects of the suit is the symbol, with various Bat-men having adopted different ones over the years. There've been red symbols (in Batman Beyond), big symbols, small symbols and, in some instances, even ones that light up.

But the two that seem to draw the most debate are the yellow - returning next year in the mainstream DCU continuity - and the black, with some bemoaning the presence of a brighter colour on the Dark Knight's outerwear.

This comes in spite of the fact the yellow crescent has both practical and thematic implications for the character, with the symbol drawing fire to the most armoured part of the Bat-suit, and then also showcasing the lighter aspects of the character. He might be vengeance personified, but Batman's also about hope. The yellow symbol conveys that fully.
