10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Deadpool

7. He Has An Easily Identifiable Origin

Wolverine Vs Deadpool
20th Century Studios

Comparable to DC’s Joker, Deadpool has no fixed backstory. The movie goes after the cancer storyline, where a desperate Wade has his healing mutant ability unleashed by experimental surgery. Likewise, it seems the Joaquin Phoenix movie is going to follow the failed comedian storyline, possibly including the skin bleaching acid bath.

While both of these are the best known origins for the respective characters, they are far from the only ones out there. Heath Ledger’s character gives multiple accounts of his scars in The Dark Knight, and there’s a popular fan theory that he’s an ex-military man, but in true Chris Nolan style, the answer is left for us to figure out.

Deadpool though is much more meta than the clown prince of crime, and is much more clear cut about his multiple origins. On occasion he’s been part of the Weapon X program used on the likes of Wolverine, but whenever it comes up in the comics, Deadpool normally breaks the fourth wall to try and justify the change of story.

Like a fair few things in the Deadpool canon, it’s one of those things where it’s easier to just go with the flow than to try and understand.
