10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Green Arrow
1. He's Just Batman Without The Suit
Now, there may have been a point where Green Arrow was just a Batman ripoff (ideas like the Arrowcave and Arrowcar hurt, y'know), but the character's 75 yearlong history has ensured that it's no longer the case. Green Arrow is very much his own unique thing.
Still, that hasn't stopped people from claiming that Ollie is nothing more than, as the chap so eloquently illustrates above, 'a second-rate Batman'; a character that, for all intents and purposes, wouldn't even exist if it hadn't been for the Dark Knight himself. While it might indeed be the case that we have Bob Kane and Bill Finger to thank for the Emerald Archer's original incarnation, it's clear that the two characters are vastly different heroes, complete with their own worlds, codes, and villains.
To complete this article's current trifecta of Arrow-themed bashing, however, it is true that the series' version of Oliver Queen does lean more on that Bat-side of things. Ollie, for instance, is much more of a brooding figure on the CW programme, and the bizarre choice to make Queen the Heir to the Demon - something commonly and indeed uniquely reserved for the Caped Crusader - only further compounded accusations that Green Arrow was nothing more than a Batman knock-off.
The fact that the CW have so easily managed to mangle the character into an analogue for the Dark Knight is of course worrisome, but it's by no means an indication that Green Arrow has nothing else to offer. Indeed, Oliver Queen remains one of the most unique heroes on the DC roster, and although his Gotham rival may boast the greater history, GA is still very much his own man, with his own approach to fighting crime. Just ask Batman if you don't believe me.
