10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Green Arrow
7. Green Lantern/Green Arrow Was Only Famous For THAT Scene
During the seventies, writer and artist duo Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams had a very famous stint on Green Lantern/Green Arrow - a series that paired the two characters together as they embarked on a politically-charged road trip across the Nixonian United States.
The series is, perhaps, most famous for its treatment of Speedy (then Roy Harper), Green Arrow's sidekick. After a heated argument, Hal takes Ollie to Roy just as he was beginning to load himself full of heroin, to which Queen proclaims in stunningly dated fashion that his sidekick is a 'junkie'. The series was, however, hailed at the time for its fierce commitment to discussing many of the social issues that had both persisted and manifested in the post-'68 milieu. The 'Junkie' storyline was just one of them.
And yet it's still, for better or for worse, the defining image of that series. Those that have only glanced at the run will miss the frank and honest dialogue shared between Queen and Jordan that O'Neil produced, leading to a story that, by its conclusion, brought both characters closer together than they had ever been before and, in no small way, provided the defining image of DC Comics during the 1970s.
