10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Thor
3. The Character's Actual Name
So, this one is a slightly weirder one. Thor is technically the name bestowed to whoever wields Mjolnir, instead of merely the name of the son of Odin. This is why, when Thor no longer wields Mjolnir in The Unworthy Thor, he instead goes by Odinson, because the name literally no longer belongs to him.
This has some pretty interesting aspects in terms of the character of Thor. Although Odinson is the person we will always think of when Marvel's Thor, whenever anyone else possesses Mjolnir - such as when Jane Foster possessed it as Lady Thor - they are actually more Thor than Thor is, which is kind of weird to wrap your head around.
A name-bestowing weapon is, all things considered, pretty wild, but it works pretty well - especially because it allows the team behind Thor to change whatever they want with a valid, canon justification.
