10 Things Everyone Forgets About Batgirl

5. Barbara Gordon And Dick Grayson

The relationship between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon is a complicated (and frequently retconned) one. Their first canonical kiss comes in Batman Family #1 when Robin condescended to Batgirl to give up the cape and cowl. Barbara kisses him to shut him up, and a flustered Robin swung away. In Batman Family #13, while gathering intel at Titans Tower, Robin confessed his romantic feelings for Batgirl, who had fallen asleep on the couch.

In Nightwing #38, Dick was recovering at Barbara's home following a savage beating at Blackgate Prison. Over dinner, Grayson expressed his desire to date Babs, but she was experiencing PTSD from her own assault and wasn’t ready for a relationship. The pair shared their first Post-Crisis kiss and would eventually begin dating, though they broke up in Nightwing #87 because Barbara believed Grayson is too overprotective. Dick assured her that he loved her and always would.

Rebirth finds Dick and a physically healed Barbara taking advantage of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle’s abandoned honeymoon suite. In Nightwing #78, Nightwing saved a three-legged puppy that was being tortured by some thugs. He briefly took it home, intending to take it to the pound, but Barbara was there. When she saw the puppy, she said that it is “theirs”, and they named her Haley, aka “Bitewing”. Haley’s humans also restart their romance, which grows stronger each day.
