10 Things Everyone Forgets About Captain America

1. He's Canonically The Avengers 'Founding Member'

It's been a long-held subject of controversy that Captain America - the 'First Avenger' who was supposedly one of the founding members of the team - was actually neither of these things, since the initial Avengers line-up was comprised of the Hulk, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Thor, and the Wasp.

However, in a clever retcon, Marvel addressed this in Avengers (Vol. 3) #4 by having Rogers officially replace the Hulk as a founding member, in order for the team of heroes to be associated with America's golden boy instead of a green uncontrollable menace. It's a fun detail, as it explains away this error in a manner that expands the lore of the Marvel universe, instead of just outright changing history.

Years later, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes would further reorganise all of this, and have Captain America become a stand-in founding Avenger immediately after melting out of the ice - although how long this will last before being retconned once more is anyone's guess.
