9. Hey Now, You’re An All-Star

DC Comics

A series of events occur, beginning in Justice Society of America Vol. 3 # 17. First, Superman from the Kingdom Come reality (Earth-22) arrives and is accepted onto the JSA team. It is revealed that Starman had spent some time in that reality and it may be a contributor to his mental illness. They also encounter Marine David Reid, a direct descendant of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who gets an alien gauntlet attached to his arm.

The Old God Gog arrives and begins to make changes to the world, seemingly for the better. Not everyone is thrilled and Reid was killed. Gog resurrected him as Magog and Reid essentially became his disciple. A number of the other Society members followed Gog’s cause and a rift developed within the team. Even after Gog’s true intentions were discovered and he was bound to the Source Wall, Magog created a larger rift.

Magog balked at the JSA’s old-school ways and lack of military precision and discipline. Taking mostly the youngest and newest recruits with him, along with Power Girl, Stargirl, and Hourman to keep an eye on things, the team moved to their own location and started calling themselves the “All-Stars” and their own title. The internal fighting began almost immediately, mostly with everyone against Magog, and the team was shattered by issue #18
