10 Things From DC Comics That REALLY Haven't Aged Well

9. Robert Kanigher’s Lois Lane Story

Supergirl Comet
DC Comics

Although this story comes from the Lois Lane led series “Superman’s Girl Friend,” it’s nevertheless considered a part of the Superman mythos due to her association with the comic book. Unfortunately, though, this story would end up becoming a low point for the Man of Steel.

The 1970s storyline “I Am Curious (Black),” was an honest attempt by DC comics to shine a light on racism, but it was incredibly tone-deaf and essentially involved Lois donning blackface. In this story, Lois Lane has Superman use a machine to change her race and become an African American woman, where she intends to infiltrate black communities so that she can write about “how the other half lives."

Although the story might've begun as an attempt to capture the differences between how black and white Americans of the 1970s were treated, it was nevertheless dismissed, due to the focus placed on Lois Lane's perspective (who wasn’t really black at all). Really, just an all-around bad idea for DC that should've never seen the light of day.
