10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Wolverine

7. He Backed Off Of Jean And Scott

The love triangle between Logan, Jean Grey and Cyclops (aka Scott Summers) appears to be one that€™s hardwired into the characters, and comes up again and again - to the point that, in the films, they straight up killed Scott off in X-Men: The Last Stand so that Wolverine could finally get some closure with the supposed love of his life. In the comics too, the strained romance between the trio - Jean supposedly attracted to Wolverine€™s passion over Scott€™s stoicism, Wolverine to Jean€™s ability to return from the dead more than him - crops up over and over. Originally, though, Wolverine€™s initial attraction to Jean was just to throw some soap opera-style drama into the mix before she eventually (inevitably) married Scott. The issue where the pair tie the knot has Logan acknowledging that he€™s backing off from the pair, he appreciates what they have, and will go find love elsewhere. Which makes sense, since Wolverine is shown to be an overwhelmingly honourable character in all other respects. Why would trying to pinch one of his teammate€™s wives by the exception to that rule? Well, it wasn€™t supposed to be, until someone decided to make it a recurring plot point for the rest of eternity. Or at least until one of the three dies more permanently.
