10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Deadpool

8. The Whole Agent X Thing

If that was an ill-fated left turn for the character €“ you can't blame them for trying something new, but you can totally blame them for doing something that totally undermines everything that makes the character work €“ than the whole Agent X debacle was even worse. Deadpool's phenomenally successful solo series was cancelled out of the blue with #69. A few months later, it was €œrelaunched€ under the new title of Agent X, with the first issue hitting stands in 2002. Along with the new writer of Gail Simone the book appeared to have a new star, the mysterious titular mutant assassin who hey wait that seems awfully similar to Deadpool's deal, only this guy has no mask or sense of humour? Turns out the whole thing was a horrible bit of trolling on Marvel's part, with the cancellation of Deadpool's book and similarities to Agent X pointing to him being revealed as this new character, having undergone a makeover or something. Turns out Agent X was a whole different guy, who immediately disappeared off the face of the Earth when Wade returned properly.
