10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Deadpool

7. He Was Originally A Villain

Deadpool is pretty much a fully fledged hero at this point. Or, at the very least, an anti-hero. The rest of the heroic side of the Marvel Universe in the comics think he's kind of annoying nuisance who does more harm than good, but then all the bad guys treat him as an adversary, so by virtue of that he's essentially a goodie, right? Wasn't always the way, believe it or not. Because the Deathstroke comparisons weren't strong enough Deadpool was introduced not solely as a comedic foil to the super serious X-Men, but as a bad guy. Which is exactly the same part Deathstroke played to the Teen Titans, with Wade making his debut in an issue of New Mutants. Which was the slightly younger X-Men team. Like how the Teen Titans were to Justice League, see? Before he got all crazy and fourth wall-breaking he was even more of a Deathstroke analogue, a regular villain threatening teenagers with a big old sword. That couldn't be further from the current characterisation of Deadpool, and the one in the upcoming film is going to definitely be the anti-hero sort.
