10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Deadpool

6. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Speaking of which, the fact that the Deadpool film is happening at all is an absolute miracle. Ryan Reynolds is a huge fan of the character and has petitioning for the opportunity to play the character for years, finally getting his chance in the cinematic train wreck that is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There, Reynolds got the chance to be the fast-talking Wade Wilson, but never in costume or quite in the full Deadpool mode. Then, for some reason, the filmmakers decided to kill him off. Well, sort of. First he got turned into a hulking superweapon with no similarity to Reynolds, and with his mouth sewn shut. Because there's nothing quite like almost giving the fans what they want, and then snatching it away and totally ruining a character because haha, that'll show you to get your hopes up and care about anything, ever. At the end of the movie, Wolverine cuts this sorta Deadpool's head off. Which he then picks up, the disembodied head winking at the camera, during a post-credits scene, but that's neither here nor there. Thanks to X-Men: Days Of Future Past rebooting the movie continuity, this new Deadpool is likely to have as much connection to his previous iteration as the new Green Lantern film will have to...the one Ryan Reynolds was in.
