10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Elektra

1. Everything To Do With The X-Men

Elektra Wolverine
Marvel Comics

Although Elektra is, primarily, a Daredevil character through and through, her involvement with the Hand (and her time spent in Japan) has led her to cross paths with none other than Wolverine on occasion. And, while the X-Men are experiencing a resurgent period in the medium as of late, it's true that Marvel would much prefer their presence to be kept to a minimum.

Fans will be all too familiar with the embargo placed on the Fantastic Four over at the House of Mouse, and even though Wolverine et al. have made a comic book comeback this year, it shouldn't be news to hear of Marvel's repeated attempts to replace the group with the Inhumans these last few years. That particular superhero group are currently making their way to the small screen via a soon to be critically-panned TV show, while Fox continue to sit on the limitless potential of the X-Men franchise.

That said, Elektra's time spent with Wolverine is probably something Marvel would rather see forgotten, and we're not just talking about Enemy of the State here either. The two have shared the page many times, with a short-lived 2002 series by Greg Rucka being a particular highlight, and it helps that they work well together.

For now, however, expect any further Elektra/Wolverine adventures to be placed on the back burner. Unless, of course, Fox have a change of heart.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
