10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Thor

7. The Year He He Lived In Oklahoma

J Michael Straczynski is something of a divisive figure in geekdom. The creator of sci-fi TV series Babylon 5, which is either brilliant or bullsh*t depending on your Star Trek fan credentials, was enlisted to revitalise characters like Spider-Man in the early noughties - which involved decisions like Gwen Stacy having had babies with Norman Osborn. Still, despite the major outcry over that crapshow and his part in the awful retcon One More Day, Straczynski was gifted the chance to work his €œmagic€ on Thor as well. Some rate his run on the book as being the one that got them into the character, coming off of a messy and unfocused post-Walt Simonson era. One of Straczynski€™s major innovations was to have Asgard become unthethered from its moorings, with Thor finding a new place for the floating island of Asgardia to live...above Oklahoma. So, the Odinson spent a lot of time in the Sooner State, but sadly never broke out into a rousing rendition of €œOh What A Beautiful Mornin€™€.
