10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About X-Men‏

1. Professor Xavier Is A Jerk

Professor Charles Xavier has done so many dodgy things in his lifetime that you could write a whole article about it. In fact, we did just that, but we'll try our best to get the gist over here. Professor X is perpetually spoken about by mutant and human alike in exalted tones. A remarkably intelligent man even before he gained his mental abilities, Xavier did more for human-mutant relations than anyone else, and always did so whilst sticking to pacifist ideals whilst his former pal Magneto went a little more hardline in his approach. That's the public perception, but is that the truth? Nah, not even close. Xavier has been manipulating his "students" ever since the beginning, coaxing them into his school from a young age with the help of telepathic suggestion, then wiping their minds of any bad memories that could come back and bite him in the arse. Like, say, the numerous times he's faked his own death for no real reason, or the time he was responsible for the very real deaths of a whole team of X-Men. Perhaps his biggest failing is in his creepiness, though. As in, he was in love with Jean Grey. Big whoop, right? Not only is there the Cyclops-Wolverine-Jean love triangle, but when she was introduced to the original team they were all lusting after Marvel Girl as well. So too did Professor X, except when he says he was in love with her since their first meeting, he's failing to mention that they first met when she was, like, 11 years old. Ew ew ew. Maybe he's better off dead. Then everyone can remember him for his good qualities, and not as a huge sleazeball.
