As the Batmobile changed throughout the years, it has taken on more and more equipment and weapons to assist Batman in his war on the criminals of Gotham. At first, this was as simple as armor plating. Now, it is as thick as 120mm at its thickest point and has explosive reactive nano-plating. An electroshock defense system is used throughout the car to disable other vehicles and, at a lower setting, disable enemy combatants. Non-lethal riot suppression rounds to disperse crowds and disable enemies were also included.

Over time, some weapon systems were necessary additions to the Batmobile’s arsenal. One of these was the M61 Vulcan Close-In Weapon System. The six-barrel, air-cooled, Gatling-style gun fired a 25mm round and had the capability of firing 6,000 rounds a minute. It was used for anti-tank, anti-missile, and surface-to-air combat. Another was the 60mm Direct Fire cannon. This behemoth fired anti-tank penetrating shells that were said to go through 820mm of steel armor.

Other weapons include laser and infrared homing device suppressor missiles, smoke screen generators, and an Electric Magnetic Pulse device to knock out every electrical device within a certain area. One standard piece of equipment has been a multi-purpose grapple hook on the front of each car that has been used to capture escaping vehicles or raise the Batmobile out of the tightest jams.
