1. He Was Almost Called The "Coal Tiger"

Back in the days before Black Panther had made his first appearance, the original idea was to have him in a very different costume and to give him a very different name - he was going to be called the "Coal Tiger". That was the name Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were going to give to him and, far from completely abandoning the name (which could be considered potentially racist in modern times), a character with the same name actually appeared in Marvel comic books as recently as 1999! Appearing as part of the MC2 series A-Next, Coal Tiger (also known as Prince T'Chaka II) is the son of Black Panther in that continuity and is a mutant with the ability to shapeshift into a feline humanoid character with superhuman strength and agility, enhanced senses and razor sharp claws.
