10 Things You Didn't Know About Red Skull

5. The Ultimate Version Is Steve Rogers' Son

Red Skull Powers
Marvel Comics

Those are a couple of the lesser-known – if not particularly out-there – different incarnations of the Red Skull. Another version that's bonafide bonkers is the Red Skull who appears in the Ultimate Marvel universe, a publishing line of comics that updated classic Marvel stories and characters for modern audiences.

Apparently modern audiences wouldn't buy a mad Nazi scientist with a scarlet face who froze himself and woke up in the modern day, but they would totally buy Steve Rogers' own son as the Red Skull. In Ultimate Comics: Avengers the slightly more ruthless, jingoistic Cap has to face up to his kid, raised on an army base whilst he was on ice.

Initially a nice, friendly child, the Ultimate Red Skull then murdered all 200 soldiers on the base and cut off his face – leaving a literal red skull – because he was rejecting his estranged father's identity. He turns out to have been the one who shot JFK, and it's revealed he wants the Cosmic Cube to undo time and keep Steve alive to raise him. Aw (kinda).
