In the wake of his de-worthification, Thor - now faced with a Mjolnir-less life - had to get to grips with another weapon, an enchanted axe called Jarnbjorn.
While not as powerful as the God of Thunder's foremost weapon, Jarnbjorn can do a job when the occasion calls for it. Forged by the Dwarves of Nidavellir and wielded by the God years before he'd use his iconic hammer, the axe was blessed with the Original Thor's blood and was able to cut straight through even the most powerful of opponents, withstand any attack and, in one particularly unfortunate incident, sever the Odinson's arm from his body.
It might not stack up to Mjolnir in terms of power or status, but Jarnbjorn is a reliable weapon for the old-fashioned God. Old Odinson's gotten pretty handy with it since losing out on his hammer, and with Mjolnir now destroyed in the MCU, expect him to be wielding it come Infinity War.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
