10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Secret Wars Retcon

10. They've Done This Sort Of Thing Before

So before everyone does start freaking out that Marvel are finally doing the thing that has so far kept them distinct from their Distinguished Competition €“ ie not just dumping out all their continuity and starting afresh every half decade or so €“ remember that this isn't the first big retcon they've done. Not by a long shot. Marvel's first big €œevent€ retcon was during the mostly terrible Onslaught crossover, where Professor Xavier of the X-Men went crazy and created a big psychic monster that killed half the big heroes. Then Mr Fantastic's crazy-powerful son brought everyone back, with neat new costumes! Which was mainly to undo the worst Iron Man story ever. More recently there was House Of M, where Scarlet Witch depowered most of the mutant population, One More Day, where Spider-Man sold his marriage to Mary Jane to the devil so it never happened, and the fallout of Axis where it turns out Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch aren't actually Magneto's kids.
