10 Things You Need To Know About The Fantastic Four

3. Civil War Split The Family

While Captain America: Civil War showcased the divide between some of Marvel's finest heroes, that's nothing compared to what the 2006 comic book Civil War arc was like.

Of course, Marvel Studios' Civil War movie had certain restraints on it where it pertains to the use of certain characters. For the comic book tale, the shackles were well and truly off as hundreds of Marvel's heroes and villains chose a side to take once the prospect of the Superhero Registration Act was on the table.

One of the most notable elements of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Civil War, is that the hot topic of the day actually split the Fantastic Four down the middle.

With Reed Richards opting to side with Iron Man, the FF initially take their place at the side of Tony Stark. That is, until a Richards and Stark-created Thor clone kills Goliath. As this clone hones in on Captain America and his team, we get one of the most impactful moments of the entire Civil War arc as Sue Storm steps forward to place a protective energy shield around Cap's Secret Avengers so that they can escape.

From here, Sue and her brother Johnny end up branching off from Reed and the Thing, and it's utterly heartbreaking to read Invisible Woman's goodbye letter to her husband and then see poor Ben Grimm watching as the Storm siblings make their exit.

In the aftermath of Civil War, Sue and Reed would actually temporarily leave the Fantastic Four. While the couple took time out to work on their marriage, Storm and Black Panther stepped up to take their place.
