10 Things You Need To Know About The Future Of DC Comics
7. Midnighter's Part Of The DCU, Is Fighting Demons
When the Wildstorm universe ceased to exist in the early noughties, it was a mercy killing. The best days of the DC imprint were behind it Warren Ellis's superlative superhero tale Planetary was over, most of the StormWatch characters were killed in an Aliens/WildCATS crossover, The Authority was barely meeting deadlines but it still sort of sucked. Mostly because the death of that line meant the death of lots of great characters, including the foul-mouthed, subversive Justice League analogues of The Authority. Well, one plucky survivors has emerged from that wreckage, with Batman parody The Midnighter already being folded into the DC Universe proper in recent issues of Grayson. And since Dick Grayson is apparently going back to Gotham City after having his identity revealed and faking his death, Midnighter is becoming more widely integrated into the DCU as a whole, complete with a book of his own. Which sees him more in the mystical realm, fighting demons and whatnot in-between one night stands. A new member of Justice League Dark, perhaps...?
